Striving for excellence together

Year Two

Bats – Mrs Lane, Mrs Haines, Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Kelly

Hedgehogs – Mr James, Mrs Gilroy, Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Kelly

Hi! Welcome to year 2. We have lots of exciting things planned for this year and we are looking forward to sharing our experiences with you. We will be working hard towards achieving our best in our end of Key Stage 1 SATs as well as exploring and developing our creativity across all areas of the curriculum through engaging projects.

Reading

To support your child in their reading development we would ask that you listen to your child read at least 5 times a week for 10 minutes each time, any spare moment of your time is beneficial! Please make a note of any reading you do in their Celebrating Reading Record. Discussing the content of books, looking at a variety of genres or topics and exploring the pictures in books are fun ways to help your child enjoy reading.

Maths

Children in Year 2 need to be familiar with the 2x, 5x and 10x tables and know these facts by heart, in any order, by the end of the year.  Regularly seeing, hearing and writing tables facts help store these in the long-term memory and make many areas of maths easier.  If your child remembers these table facts quickly, the next stage is 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 7x, 9x, 11x, 12x.  Children are taught that learning the 6x and 8x tables can be done by doubling the facts for the 3x and 4x tables and that links can be found between the table facts.

Home Challenges

Our Home Challenges are given out once per term and are themed around our project.
