School Travel Challenge week

Posted on: 15th June 2019

We have just completed a hugely successful week of active events supporting the Frome Town Council’s Travel Challenge week.

All the children (and lots of teachers and parents as well) joined in the fun events and activities that were planned to encourage everyone to try to be more active, HAPPY and HEALTHY and walk, scoot or bike to school.

On Monday we had a smoothie bike in school – we created so much pedal power that children were able to enjoy the fruits of their labour – literally – with strawberry and blueberry smoothies – YUM!

Tuesday was our Walking Bus day – nearly one hundred of our pupils and parents joined Mrs Battersby, Mrs Ball, Miss Watts, Miss Kelly and Mrs Williamson to walk from Frome Town Football Club to our school.

We all tried the “Mojo moves” work out on Wednesday led by crazy Cheryl! She had us all  grooving in the playground doing disco moves. Everyone had a great time, with our Year 4 boys being particularly good at the front – encouraging all the teachers to join in!

The final event of the week was BLING YOUR BIKE and the response was amazing – with wonderful creations being ridden into school: flowers, pom-poms, dragons, superheroes, tassels and colourful decorations all made an appearance. Miss Watts and Mrs Ball, who had helped to organise the week, had a tough job to choose the winners – who all received a kite as a prize so they can continue to be HAPPY and HEALTHY outside of school.

Representatives from Frome Town Council will be coming into school over the coming weeks to let us know how successful we were and draw winners from the activity cards that children completed during the week.

We would like to think that the impact of this week will be long lasting – encouraging everyone to walk, ride or scoot to school on a regular basis –  even if it is just parking a little further away than usual and walking the last part of the journey.
