Pupil Premium Grant

Pupil Premium Grant

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise attainment and improve the progress of disadvantaged pupils.  By this means, the intention is to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.

Children eligible for PPG include:

  • Pupils who have been registered for Free School Meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years
  • Looked After Children
  • Children adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and children who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order
  • Children of armed services personnel.

In 2015-2016 the PPG received for each child registered to receive free school meals in the last six years is £1,320. Children of armed services personnel receive a PPG of £300 whilst looked after children or those adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 or who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order receive £1,900. The school’s allocation is based on pupils on roll at the time of the January 2015 School Census.

Each school is able to decide how it will spend its PPG.  Schools are responsible for publishing online each year, information in respect of their PPG spending.  This must include:

  • the school’s pupil premium allocation for the current academic year
  • details of how the school intends to spend its allocation
  • details of how the school spent its previous academic year’s allocation
  • the difference the allocation made to the attainment of disadvantaged pupils.
