Year 1 marks a new step on the children’s journey to independence. We have a range of new learning challenges and everyday we encounter and REACH for new knowledge and understanding within our exciting projects and core skills.

Learning at home:

To support children in their reading development we ask that adults at home listen to children read for 10 minutes every day, any spare moment of time is beneficial! We aim for 5 reads a week. Even if they are great readers, we encourage adults to keep on reading to children at bedtime as this expands their vocabulary.  Children will also have keywords to read and spell which will vary according to the individual.

Home Challenges:

Home Challenges come home termly, linked to project learning; a great way to learn and involve the whole family. We have seen amazing inventiveness and look forward to the children’s contributions and creations.

Occasionally project maps, songs, poems and story maps will be sent home for the children to learn.  This is to support and develop learning and performances in class and as part of school productions and events.

Projects

Each project starts with a WOW event to get the children excited about the learning, and finishes with a celebration of learning.  This could be a performance, an exhibition or a community event.
