Owls Class and Ospreys Class
Welcome to year three at Hayesdown Primary School. Miss Page teaches the Owls and Mr James teaches the Ospreys. In year three the teaching assistants are Mrs Powis and Mrs Taylor.
Year three is a very exciting school year. Not only is it the first year group in Key Stage Two, it is also a time when children are becoming more independent as learners, managers of their own time and creators of their own learning journey.
We are a very excited team – we want the best for our children and want them to be successful. With that in mind, we do ask that parents support their children’s learning by ensuring that any homework is completed and that children are encouraged at home to value their education. The greatest way you can support your child is to ensure that they are reading five times a week for at least 10 minutes. Please don’t think that if your child can read fluently that they don’t need to continue to share reading with you. It is important to hear them reading, discuss texts with them and to find information together – it doesn’t have to be their reading book; it could be a newspaper or publication. Their ‘Celebrating reading’ record books are a great way to log what they have read, complete activities and find recommended reads!
We know that learning from experience has a huge impact and so we have planned in some exciting visits over the school year, including a trip to Stonehenge, Charmouth and visiting Fabulous Frome. We will also be focusing on special events throughout the year – being eco friendly, Remembrance Day, Anti-bullying, Christmas, New Year, Red Nose day to name but a few. Amongst all of the quality learning that we aim to achieve are the core values of the school –
R = responsible E = enthusiastic A = ambitious C = confident H = happy and healthy
Every Friday we will celebrate a child’s achievement in one of these areas and we are also always on the look out for children who go above and beyond with their behaviour. Mrs Battersby’s SHINE and SPARKLE board is very important and we encourage all children to be their best at all times so that they are GOLDEN.
The projects we will be focusing on this year are –
Stone age to Iron age, Volcanoes and mountains, Romans, Anglo Saxons, Frome and the Jurassic Coast.
