Hayesdown First School

Striving for excellence together

Music

Hayesdown celebrates all aspects of music as a means of communication and enjoyment through the development of musical knowledge, skills and understanding. We make music an enjoyable learning experience, building the confidence of children in their singing, listening, Composing and performance.

During their music lessons, as well as studying music from around the world, children develop and build on their skills in all elements of music through engaging and interactive lessons including pulse, pitch, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, timbre, structure, texture and notation.

Music at Hayesdown supports positive mental health and well-being by developing self-reflection, creativity and collaboration with others in lessons, clubs and other musical events such as concerts and festivals across the Trust. Children at Hayesdown learn to play and explore the glockenspiel, recorder and Ukulele as well as other tuned and untuned percussive instruments.

Pupils also evaluate their improvisations and performances as well as those of others.
