Celebrating World Book Day 2024!

Posted on: 8th March 2024

This World Book Day, Hayesdown celebrated by having a Pyjama Day and wore headbands they had created to celebrate their favourite books.

The Morning began at 8.15 am and the children enthusiastically headed to their classes to find their classrooms had been set up ready for breakfast and story book sharing. The children got to enjoy toast and jam and hot chocolate while listening to some fantastically funny stories snuggled up all together.

At 9am everyone gathered in the hall for a whole school assembly where the children “met” Lucy Pevensie and heard all about her extraordinary journey through an old wardrobe into a magical world. We then played some book quizzes looking at pictures, emojis and listening to some riddles. The children showed their fantastic knowledge that they have about different books and an excellent competitive time was had by all.

The Children completed their own “Reading Superpowers” where we celebrated all the reasons that reading really is at the heart of Hayesdown. The children shared with us how they are read to, they got to tell us about the books they have at home and school to choose from, how they choose the books that they read, the way they find time to read to themselves, that they have trusted adults to help find great books to read and importantly tell us about all the people who help to make reading fun for them. These are the six reading superpowers, and our children clearly are all super reading heroes.

We finished off the day by joining another class to look through and show each other the books we enjoy most, it was a joyful experience to see the children buddy up and enthusiastically sharing about their Favourite books.

What an amazing Day!
