Harvest Gifts for Frome Food Bank

Harvest - UseLeaflets Y2-Y4

Hayesdown pupils take an interest in their local community and this year, chose to support Fair Frome and its Food Bank over the harvest period.  Children brought non-perishable food gifts to the Harvest Service on Wednesday 22nd October, choosing to focus the collection on items the Food Bank was particularly short of. Pupils in Years 2, 3 and 4 also produced information leaflets giving facts about Fair Frome and the Food Bank. These will be available for local people to pick up in Sainsbury’s and ASDA. The children really enjoyed writing for a real audience and produced leaflets of very high quality, which were tied together in bundles to present to retailers for circulation.

Children and teachers led the Harvest Service which was enjoyed by everyone. The theme was sharing the food we have with those in need. We are proud to have collected: 50 jars of jam, 27 bags of sugar, 20 packets of instant mashed potato, 30 boxes of cereal bars, 38 bottles of squash, 84 boxes of cuppa soup and 87 additional non-perishable foods. We will have great fun using these numbers in our maths work!
