Pupils In Owls Learn To Play Gamelan Instruments

Posted on: 27th March 2015

Selwood Academy kindly invited Owls class to see and use the gamelan instruments the school was hosting. The children learnt about Java and Bali where the music comes from and the rules associated with playing the instruments, including the importance of not stepping over them.  They learnt about different musical beats and developed a rhythm to play in a repetitive cycle over five beats.  Jacob was lucky enough to have the main beat keeping gong to himself, whilst the rest of the children worked in pairs to ensure they kept in time with the beat.
