Thank You ASDA – We Learnt So Much!

Posted on: 21st October 2014

Y2 pupils frY2 - Ready to Go BREADom Bats class visited the Frome branch of ASDA on Monday 20th October and were made to feel very welcome.  Staff went out of their way to organise a really rich morning of learning for the children, which included provision of an official ASDA name badge and aprons and hats to wear in the bakery.

Children were divided into small groups and in turn: visited the bakery to see bread being made; saw how the tills worked and viewed their classmates on the shop floor using the security cameras.  Whilst in the bakery, some children put the crosses on the top of hot crossed buns, which once baked, the children were allowed to take home to eat at the end of the school day.

An ASDA employee spent the afternoon in school with the children, donating several different types of bread for them to taste and describe as part of the food technology curriculum.  On Tuesday, pupils went on to make their own ‘bread in a bag’, which they shaped into harvest loaves that were used as part of the school’s Harvest Service on Wednesday.  What a superb experience – THANK YOU ASDA!
