On Friday 8th September 2023, Year 2 began their topic ‘The Great Fire of London’ by baking ships’ biscuits. The children learnt that baker Thomas Farriner used to make these biscuits for Navy men at sea and that they had to be made only from dry ingredients to ensure they lasted a long time. Once baked, the children were able to try their biscuits to see how they tasted. Opinions differed with some saying, “They’re really yummy!” and others commenting on how salty they were. The children were very excited to learn how Thomas Farriner is linked to the Great Fire!
