PE and Sports Premium

Since 2013 the Government has given schools dedicated, ring-fenced money to spend on improving PE teaching and enhance engagement in sport and physical activity in primary schools.  This funding is being allocated directly to schools in the form of a PE & Sport Premium that schools can be spent on a range of activities such as:

  • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with teachers during PE lessons
  • providing resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
  • running sport competitions and sport activities with other schools
  • enhancing playgrounds and improving children’s physical activity at break and lunchtimes
  • extending opportunities for children to participate in PE and sport by running after-school and holiday sports clubs for pupils.

Schools are accountable for how they spend their PE & Sport Premium and must publish on their website, details of how the money is spent and the impact this funding has on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment.
